Good Morning Family and Friends

Saying goodbye to my new family is very hard. I have enjoyed being here in Chicaman, Guatemala. I will miss the culture, the people, and the food. I learned that people are very curious about me as a black woman – they would instantly want to touch my hair. In my culture this is a no-no!! I have allowed the Lord to use my hair as a ministry tool for the gospel even if it is not accepted in my culture.

The tradition here in Chicaman is to have tortillas at every meal. If I would have counted how many tortillas I had at every meal while being here, it would be over 200 tortillas. I really enjoyed homemade black corn tortillas with my meals. I am a vegetarian because eating meat hurts my stomach. It has been very nice to have the option to eat a variety of vegetables instead of meat.

I love this place so much! Please pray for the people here who lost their home during the hurricane. Please pray for our host family as they continue to serve the local people.  Thank you.

  1. Antoinette, we love it. Thank you for the updates, they are so encouraging. Keep up the great work. I will be showing you off to my Gospel Community (small group) this week. You will be showered with prayers from Alaska. We love you and are so proud of you as you continue to follow Jesus as He sees fit!

    Much love, Athanasiou Family!

  2. Hello Antoinette,
I enjoyed reading your update of living in Guatemala. I pray for the family (families) that lost their home (s) during the hurricane; may they be made whole with an even better home than the one they lost.
I am also wishing I could enjoy some of the vegetables you spoke of, I do tire of eating the same vegetables and would love to experience their food culture. I am looking forward to hearing more about your stay from home upon your return

    Safe travels my sister ??????

  3. Antoinette- Yes Yes! Loving the people there well and even the 200 tortillas and better veggie variety than our meat – filled USA haha! So cool that even our foreignness is a big draw card for easing into creative gospel opportunities.

See ya soon woman of God!

  4. I love you. I’ll be praying for your transition and your host family. I’m glad you’re getting a variety of vegetables at meals as you need vegetarian options. We are all well.
